Letter Writing - A Lost Art or Dead Language?

Saturday, December 12, 2009
I know, that title sounded like the cover page of a high school research paper, but when you think about it, letter writing has definitely lost it's place in this country as a viable form of communication.

In a world dominated with texting, e-mail, cell phone calls, Google/Facebook chatting, we have lost something that was a central part of our culture, and that, my friends, would be the art of the handwritten letter. It's positively disgraceful that people have stopped communicating in this form - it lends itself to such an aire of personalization and intimacy. I feel like it is because of this that people's handwriting has become more and more illegible over time, and our children are incapable of writing in script.

Now personally, I handwrite all sympathy and thank you notes, which results in me burning through a pack of stationary about once a year. I don't write in script all that often because mine is sub-par (from years of neglect) but I'm working to improve it, and not to sound like John Hancock, but my signature dominates (A friend of mine referred to it as "epic" one time, which I took as a total compliment, but in retrospect I think the comment may have been in sarcasm).

I remember in elementary school my teachers always saying, "You better learn how to write well in cursive, because once you get to high school you'll have to write everything like that!" That was a total falsehood and I'm still a little bitter about it (... bitches...).

Now don't get me wrong, I text constantly, e-mail from my iPhone like it's my job (... Oh wait...) and make 17 second phone calls on a regular basis. But I feel like you need to have the handwritten letter thrown in there every once in a while to keep some sort of decorum in the maelstrom of new-age communication.

In summary, handwritting letters is not only Gentlemanly, but also classic. I promise that any person who receives a handwritten letter these days will be impressed.

This rant spurred on by the momentum of failure.

Exam Week Playlist Pt I

Monday, December 7, 2009
Just a random collection of songs I came across while studying:

It's the theme song from Where The Wild Things Are!
For Boogying down while cranking out those difficult mortgage calculations...
3. The Reeling - Passion Pit
My cell phone rang and it reminded me of the song...
4. Molly's Chambers - Kings of Leon
A classic Kings song sure to make even the lousiest of subjects bearable.
A really cool, chill song that came up on Pandora
My new favorite Muse song. Came on AltNation on SiriusXM on the way back from the office.
Another groovy song to jam out to whilst whittling away a bond valuation.
The new Vampire Weekend CD comes out on January 12th. This is the first single off of that album
Another one of my current favorite tracks. There are a TON of awesome remixes to this song by various DJs most of which are definitely worth a second listen.
Don't Judge....
Another Passion Pit classic. Seriously trippy, but with a smooth beat that keeps your foot tapping, whether with the rhythm or not seriously depends on how much caffeine you have ingested.
The namesake of their last cd, this song's story-like lyrics and mildly paced melody makes it a perfect for your exam week playlist.
They sound like they could be cousins with Jimmy Eats World...
What study playlist is complete without the king of pop??
Off her new CD, Ellipse. My new favorite Immy song. Go buy the album! I preordered the iTunes deluxe version and couldn't be happier!

That's all for tonight. More to come later on this week...

Oh Boy, Oh Boy, Oh Boy!

Now, I haven't listened to it yet seeing as how I'm stuck in my Real Estate Appraisal class, BUT, I have exceptionally high hopes. Win.

This is Just Plain Silly...

Two Things:

1. I wish I could snowboard
2. (Holding that wish # 1 comes true) I wish I could do THIS!

Too Much??
Opinions Please...

I like this look. I'm just really pasty, not wearing slim fit khakis, & therefore I'm afraid I look like a dolt, or at least like I'm trying to hard... It may also very well be that my khakis are too light colored. Well at least the Top Siders look like they belong!

Random Time Wasting Websites...

Saturday, October 3, 2009
Here are a bunch of awesome, time wasting, websites for your amusement.

Basically people submit texts that they have received to this website, if they are funny/appalling enough they get posted. The website is updated almost constantly, so I'm always reading them. Needless to say, none of my texts have ever been posted...

I love this website. It's a hilarious compilation of submitted awkward family photos, hence the name. It's updated pretty much daily so put it in your RSS feed.

Another hilarious website - How many times have you been to Wal-Mart and thought to yourself, "Holy Mother... that person's car/outfit is RIDICULOUS!" Well the creators of this website took it a step further and took pictures of these outrages Wally World patrons in their Sunday Best... Or finest hunting garb... Or Meth Head chic attire... Also updated frequently, it's definitely worth putting in the RSS feed.

The Next Preppy Thing To Hit A Campus Near You...

Thursday, October 1, 2009
Please let me be the first to forecast this now:

Tucker Blair Needlepoint Accessories will be the next big "must have" on college campuses in the Southeast and Northeast.

Above is a picture of their website. Tucker Blair has needlepoint belts, headbands, flip-flops, and key fobs. They do all their sales online, so don't plan on snagging anything Tucker Blair off shelves at Saks any time soon, but apparently they do it this way to save us (the poor college student shopper) big bucks. The patterns they have are fun and classic, much like that of Vineyard Vines, but less in your face (sometimes Vineyard Vines ties come close to sending me into seizures).

Griffin's Pick? The Bow-Tie & Champagne Needlepoint belt:

Like I said, classic, not too in-your-face, and fun. I can wear this out on the range, at the office, or out at night. I'm seriously just waiting to get paid so I can purchase this snazzy accessory I'm sure I'll have for a long, long time.

So, guys and dolls, Do yourselves a favor, Be an early-adopter and buy yourself a sweet belt, headband - or - dog collar (yeah, you heard me).

Fun fact: Tucker Blair isn't a real person, just a couple of family names the founder pieced together.

Mega thanks go out to Taylor Llewellyn for finding me (somehow) on Twitter.
Can't wait to see what all is to come for you guys in the future (aside from my order)!
